PHSE timetable w/c 22 February 2021 – download

Goldcrests class is a specialist provision for Communication and Interaction.

This is a very exciting time for Goldcrests class. We are expanding into a specially built, self-contained unit where we will have our own sensory room, main teaching room, smaller teaching room, toilets, kitchen area and outside area. The building work is almost complete and we will be moving into it in the next few weeks.

Our existing children are settling in really well to our “old” unit and it is so lovely to have them back with us. Our new children will be joining us when the new build is complete.

We use Zones of regulation to help us identify our different emotions and learn and practice effective ways to help regulate strong emotions. We begin each morning with a range of sensory experiences in Sensory Circuits and hand gym activities. We have circle time sessions twice a day and are learning Makaton with a “sign of the day. We have PE twice a week, one of these is with Mr Entwhistle, our PE coach. We use the TEACCH method to foster independence and confidence. We follow the National Curriculum as appropriate for each child.

We all go outside for playtimes and lunch time play with our adults where we can climb, run, play with equipment such as balls, bats and beanbags or walk and talk with an adult round the field. We have outside gym equipment where we can balance and exercise.

Our topic this half term is “All About Me”. We will be finding out about ourselves and our classmates by asking questions and comparing answers about our families, pets, homes, interests, likes and dislikes etc. All the children have individualised curriculum based on their needs and interests.  Our Humanities topic is countries, continents and rivers, while our science topic is “forces and magnets.”

In literacy we have in daily speaking and listening opportunities and write/type for a variety of different purposes. We teach phonics and spelling where appropriate.

In maths we are looking at numbers, counting on and back, sequences and place value. The children all work at their own level.

The children’s successes are shared and celebrated with parents on See-saw and we earn our Golden Time minutes for the afternoon. We also earn “Dojo points” for positive behaviour and get certificates and stickers on Fridays.
