Welcome to Year 6

Well let’s hope it goes more to plan than last year! Year 6 is always challenging but there are lots of fun bits too. The key is to just do your best so that you are as ready as possible for high school.

This half term Mrs Atacocugu will be teaching you all about the Tudors – always great fun with lots of larger than life characters and exciting stories. I may even come in dressed in my Queen Elizabeth I frock one day! Science will be electricity and RE will be Islam.

We will be reading Holes by Louis Sachet. We will be studying Jabberwacky and trying to learn it off by heart. We will also be looking at explanation texts.

We will focus on place value and arithmetic.

Children are expected to read a minimum of 4 times a week. Reading will be a huge focus this year, so please listen to your child read as much as you can. When you do so, please Seesaw me to tell me what they read.

Each week the children will be sent home with a spelling list to learn. This is in the form of Look, Say, Cover, Write Check and they have been told how to use it. The spellings are also set on Purple Mash and they should complete the activity on Purple Mash each week.

Maths homework will be set each week. It should be completed in the homework book they have been given and then sent to me via Seesaw. The book does not need to come back into school.

This term PE will be on Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons.

Children should wear their PE kits to school that day, and as the weather gets colder, please make sure that they also have a track suit which they can take on and off.

Please make sure that your child can take their earrings out if they have pierced ears.

Please remember – If your child has their ears pierced during the school year, they cannot do PE for 6 weeks. PE is part of the national curriculum and it is very important that your child takes part in every session.

Making contact

Please feel free to continue to use Seesaw to communicate with me. However, if you need to talk to me, please contact the school office, and I will ring you as soon as I can.
