Welcome to Doves Class!

Happy New Year to everyone and let’s spring forward!

In Maths, we will be starting off with work on shape and then moving on to further Arithmetic skills. We will continue to use Times Tables Rockstars to learn both the multiplication and the division facts for a particular times table. We will be working on different x tables for different groups. We will work on short and snappy times tables facts weekly, our ‘Rockstar’ timed challenges as well as have a focused Arithmetic lesson once a week.

In English, we will continue to write in a wide range of text types including both fiction and non-fiction works. Our Guided Reading sessions will initially focus on our class book, the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We will then move on to reading’Why the Whales came by Michael Morpurgo. Each week, you’ll continue to receive spellings and work towards learning the target words for year 3 and year 4 or beyond in some cases!.

In Science we will be moving on to the topic, ‘States of Matter,’ and learning about  why materials are solids, liquids and gases. We will be conducting some really  interesting experiments to show us how differently they behave!

In History, we will be learning about the’ Cradles of Civilisation’ which will be a new topic for us all! We’ll learn about Sumer and how its civilisation began….

PE will continue to be on Monday and Thuesday so please make sure that you wear your PE kits on those days and ensure that you have taken your earrings out and that long hair is tied back. As we’ll be out a lot or the hall doors/windows will be open, wrap up!

Finally, don’t forget -you’re a book pirate and the more you read, the more treasure islands you’ll find!

We are looking forward to an exciting  and successful term!

Mr Keegan and Mrs Flatman.
